EZ’r Cobol is an advanced add-on to COBOL-compatible IDE’s such as Eclipse and MS Visual Studio 2012 or higher that leverages a powerful syntax with pre-existing “expertly coded routines” (EZ'r Methods) across the Development team. The syntax uses easy-to-learn COBOL-like acronyms which generates into full-function, expertly coded COBOL programs. Coding is comparable to using abbreviations when text messaging and the combination of syntax and Methods reduces lines of code by up to 70% ... and fewer LoC means less effort and less cost. EZ’r Cobol is viable for modification of existing COBOL code as well as new development and is guided by the IDE's HELP sub-system.
EZ’r Cobol generates compile-ready COBOL for compilation by the target COBOL compiler and execution on the target platform. The generation process is automatically invoked by the BUILD process of the IDE with the generated results being transparently submitted to the target compiler now resulting in a .exe. And by choosing different generation parameters, the same EZ’r Cobol program generates for compilation and execution on mainframes, midrange systems, even to PC’s and PDA’s … especially beneficial for software vendors and clients having multiple hardware platforms. Note that the generated target COBOL is free of TPG dependencies – thus NO runtime fees.
Because EZ’r Cobol generates to your chosen COBOL and compiler with no dependencies, you are not locked in to TPG as a proprietary Vendor. Yet, if you continue with EZ’r Cobol, you gain the following benefits:
- Up to 90% savings off the typical development time as compared to manual coding.
- Lines of Code of EZ’r Cobol are up to 70% less than comparable native COBOL.
- Instant and total applicability. You can mix new tasks/programs in EZ’r Cobol in any combination with current COBOL production code.
- Reusable “expert code” (EZ’r Methods) reduces application redundancy and maintenance efforts and costs.
- Technology Methods provide for easy “modernization” of embedded technology syntax while allowing elimination of an expensive and complex legacy technology system.
- Development is focused on enterprise business rules rather than lower level technology issues improving both maintenance and new development efforts and costs.
- Creation of site-specific EZ’r Methods captures “expertise” and reduces the impact of “lost experience” occurring due to staff attrition.
- Already field-proven by users in all industries for over 20 years.
- Portable to any target machine or across multiple target machines without change.
- Market your software solutions to new customers, prospects, and business partners without hiring IT specialists for each platform type.
- Reduce the effort and cost of COBOL solutions ... and TPG has NO runtime License Fees.
EZ’r Cobol is a valuable productivity-enhancing product that quickly pays for itself. Gain freedom from minute technical details, independence from aggressive vendors, agility to meet changing requirements and/or technologies. Deliver cost-competitive and robust, consistent results with far less effort by using EZ’r Cobol.

EZ’r Cobol can be taken a step further through the use of EZ'r Methods. There are 3 types of TPG-provided EZ’r Methods.
- Platform
- Technology
- Compiler
Platform Methods contain the code that creates platform specificity while EZ’r Cobol remains platform independent. Supported platforms are those that are Linux-, Windows-, Unix-, and zLinux-based.
Technology Methods are “encapsulated expert code” that access technologies (SQL I/O, legacy DBMS I/O, TP Monitor I/O, etc.) supported within the COBOL environment. These Methods provide complete management of technology I/O including error recognition/ error processing under all situations and are referenced in EZ’r Cobol by a simple syntax. Thus all complexities of technology I/O are masked from the Developer making application maintenance faster, easier, and less costly, and making EZ’r Cobol “technology independent” as each Developer becomes an “expert” on these diverse technologies by Method inclusion during the compile process.
Compiler Methods support the various syntactical differences found in the various COBOL compilers … IBM Rational Studio, Micro Focus Visual Studio, Fujitsu's NetCOBOL, etc., whichever your existing COBOL compiler.
