Platform Migrations

Progeni's experience accumulated over decades of automated processes on dozens of projects, and hundreds of millions of lines of code, is embodied in our current onshore outsourcing service offerings. Our services are not based on a single technology, but based on what we have learned in developing a methodology that delivers consistent, robust, cost controlled and timely results.

Progeni processes code from and to a wide array of platforms, environments, languages and databases. This has resulted in a most extensive set of checklists and procedures to ensure every project is delivered as agreed. Progeni's methodologies and processes are practical, pragmatic and ensure the integrity of migrated code through standard transformation techniques, automation for consistent results and phased validation of functional equivalency. Additionally, Progeni limits “project scope creep” so that those tasks that have already been evaluated and agreed to by our client in terms of potential benefits, cost and timeframe, are not adversely impacted.

The advantage of automated code conversion is evident when compared to a manual approach. Even if the initial cost looks similar, automated changes are implemented consistently so the chance of an isolated error that increases testing and fault finding is minimized. Also should a rework of the code become necessary, the speed, cost and reliability of automated rework cannot be matched by manual methods. To minimize the risk Progeni ensures that our client reviews, and if required, revises the change methods and delivery standards before the conversion process is started. Once Progeni’s automated laboratory is set up for a project, deliveries are faster and more reliable in terms of keeping to the schedule.

It should be recognized that most errors are found during the testing of the first deliverable so it is vital for the client to understand the discovery of most of the errors that arise in the project are manifested in the initial testing. Progeni then integrates what is learned in the first batch of code conversion into the processes used for the remaining deliveries, making their testing more efficient in terms of the resources required by all participants.

Progeni performs the code conversion in its Atlanta Georgia facility. Electronic communication facilitates the submission by our client of the latest version of production code a day or two prior to the scheduled date for its conversion processing. This reduces the freeze times for programs and the need to retrofit maintenance changes made during the life of the project as a whole.
